Tending to what’s broken in our circles.

Though I am breathing easier these days, this problem is far from over.

In 2016, before the election, I referred to DJT as a kind of global cancer. I didn’t have quite the thoughts to words to formulate more but since that time, and in many ways, my entire life long, I’ve been living out what I want to share in this piece.

During this man’s tenure as U.S. president, I have been struck by how he is the epitome of all that is awful and vile in a human being. He lies, thieves, manipulates, badgers, assaults, belittles, and bullies. He has no capacity for empathy. He has no capacity for witnessing or understanding anything outside of himself. He has no love whatsoever.

Yet the fact remains that, despite being the epitome of the worst kind of human being, there he has been for years in charge, ‘leading’ one of the superpowers of the world, thereby affecting the experience of every living being on the planet in this perilous, tenuous time.

I view it as our deepest human sickness put front and centre, exalted by so many and cast in the role of leading. Whether we supported him or not, we have been held hostage. Not separate from, not immune.

And while he is now officially no longer in office, his influence still looms large. I…
